My Ego, My Higher Power and I
Published in Paperback by Hi Productions (March, 1999)
Author: Jerry Hirschfield
Average review score:

An Essential Read for Recovery!
Am a recovering alcoholic and was given this book by my A. A. sponsor early in the process. The book offered me amazing insight into the ego and its transformation to a life of God Consciousness. Have recommended it to others and they have also found the book very valuable to the recovery process and the 12 Steps.

This book is "simply" profound!
This book is the clearest, most easily understood description of the individual's spiritual journey that I have ever read. I have read alot! It helps one to understand what he or she is going through and why. Thank you Jerry Hirschfield!

Narrowing the Nation's Power : The Supreme Court Sides with the States
Published in Paperback by University of California Press (August, 2003)
Author: Jr. John T. Noonan
Average review score:

Exposing An Activist Court
Judge Noonan does not need to hide behind difficult-to-understand legalese in order to expose the Rehnquist Court's 5-4 judicial activism. The book puts a human face on the individuals whose rights have been ignored by a bare majority of justices who are more interested in protecting the "dignity" of the States than the dignity of the People -- though that concern for State "dignity" was not apparent when the same 5 justices decided Bush v. Gore. Any educated reader will easily understand Judge Noonan's description of the Rehnquist Court's outrageous activisim -- a critique all the more stinging becausae it comes from a Reagan-appointed judge who has never been accused of being a "liberal." As Judge Noonan observes, the 5 justices' "intepretation" of the Constitution seems more like an interpretation of the Articles of Confederation -- a document that failed to provide for an effective and independant federal government, thereby requiring enactment of the Constitution in order to preserve the United States. Highly recommended for all -- but especially recommended for lawyers and law students, who need to understand this revolutionary return to the properly discredited States Rights movement.

Narrowing the Nation's Power
Narrowing the Nation's Power: The Supreme Court Sides with the States written by John T. Noonan, Jr. is a book about the current Supreme Court and the 11th amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

What I found interesting is that the author writes in a style that is easily understood and the book is well-documented as he explains how the Supreme Court is swaying toward the States vs. Federal in its thinking. This is an age old debate whether to be more States Rights of Federal in thinking and to interpretation of the law. Ever since the government of the United States has been formed this debate has been around.

Does the Supreme Court systematically thwart justice to American through a states rights policy? The author makes a strong case and backs his judgement with case studies.

This book takes complex legal doctrine and makes it enjoyable to read. To better understand the laws of the land we have the courts and the final say rests with the Supreme Court. The book explains some of these cases... states' immunity in age discrimination, disability discrimination, and violation of patents, trademarks, copyrights, and fair labor... insulation from paying damages, are just a few of the case torts reviewed in this book.

The lawyer-ese is at a minimum so the layperson can get a good idea as to what and the why things are as they are. So, if you like reading about the laws that affect our daily lives this is a good book to start with.

Never Say Never (The American Beauties Series, 3)
Published in Paperback by Sonnet Books (May, 1999)
Author: Jo-Ann Power
Average review score:

Sensuality and Intelligence combined for a potent brew
I will not rehash a review of the story - others have done an admirable job of this. Suffice it to say that Ms. Power is an author whose style is unique. She is not afraid of making her readers think even as they fall in love with her characters. The world she draws is complete and compelling, dragging you into her characters' lives and making you feel as though you are looking over their shoulders. The love scenes are powerful and intensely sensual - they burn the pages. Her American Beauties trilogy is a series not to be missed!

Beautiful Victorian romance

In 1880 London, Lord Bryce Falconer has new reasons to loathe his former spouse, American Beauty Colleen VanderHorn. It is bad enough that he fell in love with her, only to have her cheat on him with a succession of lovers before he ended their farce of a marriage. Now she goes over the top by abducting their child, Ford, demanding money for the lad's safe return.

Bryce knows he needs help and turns to Colleen's younger sister Augusta, who has helped him before with his ex-wife's scandals. Gus has secretly loved Bryce for the five years she knows him, but he treats her like a younger sister. As they search for the missing child, whose life they fear from Colleen's latest lover, an Irish freedom fighter, Bryce falls in love with Gus. However, they both know nothing can come of their love because God and country treat any marital relationships even between ex in-laws as taboo.

Though this stupendous Victorian romance series is over, readers will shout to author Jo Ann Power for more tales about the American Beauties. All three novels (see NEVER BEFORE and NEVER AGAIN) are warm historical romances that bring to life a piece of the Victorian era. NEVER SAY NEVER is a fine work due to a fast-paced story line filled with authenticity and the forbidden love of the lead characters. It is to be hoped that, Ms. Powers will read her own title and scribe future works, starring other American Beauties.

The Nightingale's Song
Published in Paperback by Pocket Books (June, 1997)
Author: Jo-ann Power
Average review score:

A fabulous medieval romance!
I loved this book! The hero and heroine are completely endearing, & the sensuality between them sparkles throughout. It's a fast-paced, satisfying read that has taken its place on my keeper shelf. Enjoy!

a hauntingly lyrical medieval romance
For the past seven years, Clare, the Countess of Trent, has managed to avoid marrying anyone in spite of the increasing pressure from King Henry to wed one of his loyal supporters. Clare prefers to write heroic adventures of derring do under the pseudonym of The Nightingale, a secret occupation that she feels a spouse will halt. However, the world has arrived at her castle's wall near the Welsh marshes. The King has selected someone for Clare to marry. This selected paragon is younger than the twenty-three years old female hermit, but in 1403 England, a woman has little choice in her ultimate destiny. Worse yet for the besieged Lady is that her intended is the nephew of Jordan The Dragon, who is coming to escort her to her betrothed. ....... However, when The Dragon nears her walls, he finds himself under attack. Only the daring rescue of Clare saves his life. To his shock, Jordan finds himself immediately in love with his rescuer, the woman he has sworn to escort to another man for her to marry. As the danger mounts from treacherous foes, Clare finds that she loves The Dragon also. However, even if they survive their perilous enemies and a royal decree, honor still stands in the way of a lasting relationship between The Nightingale and The Dragon. ........ With her marvelous talent, Jo-Ann Powers empowers her audience with a sense of seeing first hand the Middle Ages as few writers are capable of doing. Her current Medieval romance, THE NIGHTINGALE'S SONG, is a fast-paced story line that will thrill readers with the dilemma between honor and love. This is a great work that should not be missed by fans of the sub-genre. .....Harriet Klausner

No More Sour Grapes: Releasing the Power of Our Children's Destiny
Published in Paperback by Destiny Image (July, 1999)
Author: Don, Sr. Nori
Average review score:

"Must" reading for all Christian parents.
In No More Sour Grapes, Don Nori encourages parents to pour themselves into their children by mentoring, encouraging, and loving them. It is the absence of positive and consistent role models that leaves many children feeling hurt, frustrated and cynical. Children without strong influence from both parents tend to struggle more throughout their whole life. Nori maintains that the three crucial ingredients in preparing children for their proper place in the world is to instill within them history, holiness, and hope. He encourages parents not to try to cover up past misdeeds, but to be open with their children about their own struggles and failures. He believes that if we teach and live the principles of holy living and faith in God, our children will emulate our values. No More Sour Grapes is urgently suggested reading for all Christian parents of children preschool through young adult.

Wonderful Insight
I was totally consumed by this book. I loved it and found it not only readable, but worth studying.

This is a book you'll want to keep around for future reference. For anyone who wishes to instill good generational values in their children, to undo generations of sins and faults, for anyone who desires to understand how to carry on the good traits in your children, this is your book.

I believe any Christian family can benefit from this book. It has helped to heal old wounds and I look forward to rereading it and studying it further!

No More Sour Grapes offers innovative advice not expressed in other christian parenting books.

I highly recommend this book.

Practical step-by-step approach to personal improvement
Dr. Cerny's book is a very practical step-by-step approach to personal improvement. He discusses scheduling, planning, and, most importantly, how to set and achieve your personal, professional, and spiritual goals. However, Dr. Cerny doesn't overwhelm you with difficult and hard to implement concepts. Instead, the focus is on "down-to-earth" strategies that give you discipline and focus. The price of this book is small compared to the positive impact that it will have on your life.

Provides the direction you need to succeed!!!
If you have a positive mental attitude (PMA), you are half way to success, 'Notes from the Coach' provides the quidelines for the other half. This book helps you focus on your goals, and provides direction for your professional, physical, personal, and spirtual life. Enjoy

Numbers: Their Occult Power & Mystic Virtues
Published in Paperback by Kessinger Publishing Company (March, 1997)
Author: W. Wynn Westcott
Average review score:

Five stars to George!
George, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? Behave yourself, will you?

6 Stars times 6
Westcott demonstrates, with relaxed and ingenious aplomb,
that he was indeed a living phallic symbol, and clearly,
we muggles are not worthy of worshiping the urinals into
which he relieved himself. A Freemason of a high degree,
he demonstrates to one and all his higher degree of
understanding of things occulty, crafty, ooooo so mysterious,
and may I say, numerological.

Let's take the number 666, for example. He really does
give a unique perspective all his own on this most witchy
and scary number. "Oooga boooga, oooga booga, oooga booga,
boo," for example, numerologically signifies something
which I dare not speak of.

This is good reading. Lot's of fun and chuckles for the
entire witch family. Highly recommended to the 33rd and
last degree!

Oceans to orbit : the story of Australia's first man in space : Dr. Paul Scully-Power
Published in Unknown Binding by Playright ()
Author: Colin Burgess
Average review score:

A remarkable story!
This is the remarkable story of Dr. Paul Scully-Power, who became the first Australian-born person to fly into space in October 1984. A brilliant student and accomplished athelete during his formative years, he went on to become the first oceanographer to view the world's oceans from the best vantage point of all- Earth orbit. As a youth with a passion for riding his surf board at Sydney's northern beaches, he managed to combine a love of the ocean with his academic studies. This led him on the path to oceanography. Later he went to the United States on a Navy exchange program, where he briefed and debriefed NASA's astronaut crews on what to look for and photograph as they circled the oceans. He continued to be involved in briefing space shuttle crews for many years afterwards. Through a series of circumstances Paul Scully-Power was chosen to fly into space aboard the Shuttle Challenger. He describes the many sights he saw from space, particularly Australia- the land of his birth. Author Colin Burgess's enduring interest in spaceflight history was kindled by the dramatic flight of John Glenn in 1962, and he is a noted and regular contributor to spaceflight magazines. His friendship with Paul Scully-Power began in 1985 when he asked him to pen a suitable foreword for his children's book, 'Space: The New Frontier'. He has authored an impressive variety of books on topics ranging from humorous anecdotes of flying for Quantas Airways through to best-selling books on the Australian prisoner-of-war experience. Join the first Australian-born astronaut on his incredible journey of discovery, and learn how his space flight has changed forever the way scientists regard our oceans- knowledge which should lead to more accurate weather forecasting.

A wonderful book for everyone interested in space flight!
I cannot recommend this book more highly. Colin Burgess has previously written some excellent books on World War Two prisoners of war, and books of aviation humor, and here he writes with great flair on another subject- the first person born in Australia to journey into space. This book offers a fascinating insight into how someone born outside of the USA and Russia managed to make an incredible journey into orbit and study the oceans from above. However, I believe that this book will not only appeal to those interested in astronauts and Australian space achievements- the book also contains a wealth of breathtaking photos taken from orbit, guaranteed to inspire awe in even the most hardened reader. This book will be of immense interest to both adult readers and younger readers who wish to learn about the wonders of spaceflight. It makes a great companion piece to Burgess's fabulous book about Christa McAuliffe. I can't imagine my bookshelf without it, and would urge you to buy a copy if you can.

The Only Thing That Matters: Bringing the Power of the Customer into the Center of Your Business
Published in Hardcover by HarperCollins (May, 1992)
Author: Karl Albrecht
Average review score:

Incredible book. Fabulous. To the point and practical.
I've read dozens of customer-centered business books. This is the best. Loaded with perceptive observations and practical tools. The subtitle says it all: "Bringing the Power of the Customer into the Center of Your Business".

First three chapters convinced me to buy the book!
I borrowed the book from a colleague for a short plane trip. The first chapters seemed to sum up what I think our company direction should be. So I bought the book. I think this is a classic.
